Dental Implants to Restore Your Smile
Whether you are missing teeth due to age, decay, or injury, your mouth has likely changed how you speak and eat and possibly affected your self-esteem. Dental implants can fix all of that! At Madison Avenue Dental in Greenwood, Indiana, we offer dental implants as a restoration option. Dental implants may be the best option if you want to replace one or more teeth permanently! They are the gold standard of restorative dentistry and the next best thing to your natural teeth.
On average, dental implants can last more than 25 years with proper care and maintenance. Seasonal check-ups with your dentist can help identify any potential issues before they become problematic and also help to ensure that your dental implants continue to look, feel, and function like new for many years to come.
Dental Implant Procedure
Getting a dental implant begins with a consultation at Dr. Savabi’s office. The doctor needs to consult your oral and medical history to ensure that your jaw bone is strong enough to hold the implant. Once you have been cleared, the process can begin.
The dental implant consists of three parts: the post, the abutment, and the crown. The post is the first piece that we will place. Dr. Savabi will carefully cut open your gums, expose the tooth socket, and create an opening for the titanium post. We will then place the post in your jawbone. As the surrounding tissue heals, it will secure the post, making it the new root for your tooth.
Once the post is in place and your mouth has had time to heal, you will return to our office for placement of the abutment. The abutment is the piece that connects the post and the crown. After we place the abutment, your gum line will also need time to heal before it can hold the crown. We will give you a temporary crown while you wait.
The crown is the last and final piece of the dental implant. The crown is made to match your tooth anatomy, meaning it will be similar in size, shape, and shade to your other teeth. Once we secure the crown onto the abutment, your new implant is ready to go. You may experience sensitivity in your mouth following this appointment, but it will not last. You can eat and drink normally! People will not even be able to tell that you have an artificial tooth.
Benefits of Dental Implants
