dentures greenwoodFull Denture

Dentures at Greenwood. A full denture, or a complete denture, replaces all the teeth on the top and/or bottom arch. A complete denture replaces teeth so a person can chew, speak, and smile!

  • CHEW | One of the most important attributes of a denture is a patient’s bite. If a bite is not properly determined, a person will struggle with TMJ pain and headaches.
  • SPEAK | If denture teeth are not put in the proper position, a patient’s speech can be totally altered. Have you ever heard someone with a denture whistle when they talk?
  • SMILE | A great denture is one that looks natural! From the amount of teeth you see when you smile to the tooth shade, every detail is important! A denture can make you look younger by supporting your lips and cheeks in the perfect balance.

Immediate vs Conventional Denture

A conventional denture means impressions are taken after gums have healed from extractions. It usually take 6-8 weeks for a patient to heal after extractions. However, if it is your second set, there is no wait!

An immediate denture means impressions are taken before all teeth have been extracted. The denture is fabricated before the extraction appointment. Then at the same appointment, all remaining teeth are extracted and the denture is placed. An immediate denture means you don’t go without teeth! After 6 months of healing, a final lab reline will need to be completed.

Implant Supported Denture

Implants can be used to stabilize a denture. Implants will have a male connector, while the denture has female components that snap the denture into place. These dentures do come in and out, however, the retention is amazing!

Partial Denture

dentures greenwoodA partial denture, usually referred to as a just a partial, only replaces some teeth in an arch. A partial can replace just one tooth or it can replace fourteen teeth! Because some natural teeth are maintained, they are used as anchors to keep your partial steady.

Traditionally, a partial has a metal-based framework with pink acrylic and denture teeth over it. The metal hooks are usually visible with this option, but it is very sturdy and stable!

There are also flexible, metal-free partials. This is the newest technology for partials. There are no metal hooks, so this option is much more esthetic. However, these flexible partials will shift more than the traditional metal-based partials.
